Realme is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer which was initially a project within popular Chinese brand Oppo. At the end of July 2018, some former Oppo employees resigned and started their own Realme brand. The first Realme 1 came in the market in May 2018. The global version of the phone was called Oppo F7 Youth. Previously, Oppo F5 Youth was released in December 2017 which was also available in Bangladesh. But after Realme became an individual entity, Oppo F5 Youth was not available anymore in the Bangladeshi market in Oppo showrooms and dealer locations. As of Q4 2021, Realme is the fourth most popular phone brand worldwide with 6% market share. Before them are Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo.
The primary vision behind the establishment of the brand was to release exclusive smartphones to meet the demand of the youth of the current time. Especially those with a global modern culture who are relying on their phone for many everyday tasks. Realme strives to provide trendy design, affordable price, efficient performance, good battery backup and fine quality camera.
Realme phones started to arrive in the Bangladeshi market from February 2019 officially in some online shops. However, after a few months, no new phones were available. Then in February 2020, Realme officially entered Bangladesh as a brand entity. Their first factory was established in Gazipur, which means they won’t have the added import tax for their products. It will help them to offer more affordable prices for the consumers compared to those brands that are still importing their products from abroad.
The company launched their two affordable smartphones Realme 5i and C2 on 13th March 2020 to start their official journey. Realme 5i was one of the most popular smartphone in Bangladesh in 2020. It was the no. 1 most viewed mobile phone of Bangladesh in 2020 in mobiledokan.com. In 2021, Realme 8, 8 5G, 8 Pro, C21, C25s and Narzo 30A are some of their popular releases. In 2022, Realme continues its success with releases such as Realme 9i and GT Neo2.
